Introduction

Detoxification means cleaning of the body and removal of harmful toxins from the body and blood. Still, it is unclear that what toxins do they remove or whether they remove them at all. Still, individuals who have tried this say they felt changes in the body and felt different during detoxification.

This process leads to following a specific routine such as fasting, drinking juices of fresh fruits and vegetables, water, etc. It gives rest to organs, provides nutrients to the body which is generally not taken, enables removal of toxins through sweat, urine, solid waste.

Benefits

Detoxification removes the toxins present in our body. This study says that it is very important for the body and if not done can lead to diseases or death. One of the ways for detoxing is complete fasting where removal of allergic foods and beverages occurs. Another way is a core food plan for detoxing which incorporates food required and thus enhances this process. According to this study, detox diets claim to reduce toxins and help in weight loss. But most of the research is done in animals and there is less evidence of these actually working in humans.

However, this study shows that a simple 7-day detoxification process on a disease free individual can be helpful and enhance the liver. And a healthier liver means a healthier person.

A study shows, many naturopathic doctors use this as a means to treat patients with environmental exposures, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune diseases, etc.

According to Peter Bennett, detox should be done at least once in a year. But children, pregnant women or patients with cancer must not do this.

This study shows the benefits of the lemon detox plan. This plan reduces body fat and insulin resistance through the low-calorie intake and might have a potentially beneficial effect on risk factors for heart disease.

Ways of detoxification
  1. Avoid rice, coffee, grains(wheat), alcohols, cigarette, sugar, honey.
  2. Avoid the use of chemical based home and self-improvement products such as deodorants, synthetic shampoos, cleaners, etc.
  3. Water fasting for 1-3 days
  4. Drinking only fruit and vegetable juices for the next 5 days.
  5. Drinking lemon juice is also advisable.
  6. Exercise regularly and body brush to improve blood circulation.
