Green Tea is the healthiest beverage in the world. It has great antioxidant properties. It has more catechins than black tea or oolong tea. Catechins are antioxidants [1] which have various health benefits in humans. The preparation of green tea and black tea are different. To produce this tea, freshly harvested leaves are immediately steamed to prevent fermentation, yielding a dry, stable product [2]. Due to the steaming process, it retains its green colour.

Prevents Gastrointestinal Disorders

Green Tea is rich in polyphenol compounds and catechins. Catechins possess pharmacological properties. These properties help in reducing the absorption of cholesterols and lipids in the gastrointestinal tract thereby helping with cardiovascular disorders. Hence it is one of the easiest ways to prevent gastrointestinal disorders [3].

 

Prevents Cancer

A rapid growth of cells causes cancer. Studies show green tea prevents various cancers, heart and neurological diseases [4]. Experiments also show that it reduced the size of a breast tumour and also slowed the cell division process [5]. Also, a study shows a reduced risk of breast cancer among participants [7]. Additionally, an experiment of prostate cancer, involving Japanese men, concluded that its consumption helps in decreasing risk of advanced prostate cancer.

 

Prevents lifestyle-related diseases

Green tea is one of the simplest prevention for cancer. It might also help in the prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases. It also helps in preventing heart disease. A study also concluded that drinking more than 10 cups of green tea daily will decrease the risk of death from heart diseases [6].

 

Helps prolong life

Everyone wants to live a longer and a disease-free life. Most of them are not aware of the steps they must take to accomplish this. Green tea helps prolong life by decreasing various threats and diseases, thereby helping to live longer [6]. It also helps with the chronic diseases thereby increasing the lifespan.

It also helps with physiological functions such as controlling body weight, increasing bone mineral density, protection from ultraviolet radiation, antibacterial properties [1].

Green tea is one of the healthiest beverage. It perfectly complements the individuals who exercise and want to reduce weight. This research suggests that when exercise is done after consuming it 17% more fat is burnt compared to when exercise is not complemented with it. Another study found that its consumption increases body fat utilisation for energy expenditure during both exercising and sedentary condition as compared to without it [7]. May lower the risk of type II diabetes

Type II diabetes is a chronic disease, associated with high blood sugar levels or inefficiency in insulin production. A study of 1133 individuals, concluded that green tea had favourable effects, ie, decreased fasting glucose and a significant reduction in fasting insulin concentrations [8]. Also, a study comprising of 17,413 persons (6727 men and 10,686 women) who were 40 to 65 years of age, having no history of type 2 diabetes, concluded that total caffeine intake from green tea and other sources reduced the risk for diabetes by 33% [9].
